The setting or surrounding the author has aimed to make humorous, and we can assure our readers that he has succeeded admirably. Those few favored persons to whom the MS. has been submitted are unanimous in the opinion that it ought to have a permanent place in law literature. The story will be published, in serial form, in these columns by special arrangement with the author, who has copyrighted it. Mr. Skillman is a native of Chenango county., N. Y., but left there in 1856 for Minnesota, where he lived until 1882. He then went to South Dakota, and, in 1890, became a resident of the State of Washington. The Skillman family have an honorable record in New York.
