How Mwesi's New Friend Saved Both Their Lives

Kate Reschner
4.9/5 (29549 ratings)
Description:Life on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi was about as perfect as you could want. And then that perfect world disappeared for Mwesi. It was and wasn’t hard getting used to being an orphan. More than anything Mwesi missed her mother and father and her baby brother. It was getting harder each day to picture their faces, especially her baby brother who she knew the least amount of time. There was no lake here but the mist and clouds that hung over the forest reminded her of the morning mist hovering over the lake. Standing at the edge of the forest, was not unlike standing on the shore. The jungle forest did not seem to be as scary as she thought it might be. The mist that shrouded the forest was complete but thin. She could see quite well what was in front of her, to each side, and the trail down which she had just walked up. She was not afraid of being so far into the jungle even though everything seemed to grow taller than Mwesi. The sound of birds calling beckoned her to come farther. Afterall, Bunyonyi, meant place of little birds. She loved to hear the sounds of birds singing, calling, shrieking, it didn’t matter. It was a reminder of home during the happy times of her life. Mwesi was a sight to behold. She was covered in splotches of mud that had not been washed away in the rain. Her clothes hung on her wet and limply. Twigs and leaves were matted in her still wet hair from sleeping on the ground. Her eyes were puffy and her nose quite red from crying to herself most of the night. She had lost the shoe from her good foot after being continuously sucked down into the mud when she tried to retrace her steps to find her way home. Her clothes were torn in many places when they were caught on branches and thorny shrubs. She was a frightful sight. Imara heard the sounds of small dragging footsteps carelessly trampling down brush and branches. He was puzzled by what he heard. The footsteps belong to only one and a seemingly small one at that.. Imara rushed to investigate what was coming before it got to his family. Mwesi saw eyes, only eyes peering through the leaves. Mwesi had never seen a gorilla. But with a sense of certitude, she knew a gorilla faced her. Mwesi held her breath and held it longer than she thought was humanly possible. Imara watched cautiously to see if the human moved. A rush of air behind a loud gasp signaled the end of Mwesi playing dead. There was no doubt the gorilla heard her gasp. Mwesi bit her lip as hard as she could to try and hold back the tears that began streaming down her face. She did not want her life to end. Mwesi’s hands trembled uncontrollably at the sight of the silverback. Her heartbeat pounded wildly, heaving against her tiny chest. She was frightened like never before in her life. She could not run. She could not hide. The silverback’s arms were massive and his head and jaw enormous. His teeth had to be gargantuan. Would her death be quick or slow and agonizing? Would the great silverback tear her apart limb by limb or shred her into pieces or, toss her about over and over like a rag doll? How had she gotten into this desperate predicament? She hadn’t run away. She hadn’t meant to go deep into the jungle forest. She was lost before she realized she had returned down the wrong path. It was a frightening moment when the realization of being lost hit her with full force. Panic seized her that same moment and then subsided as now no one would know what had become of poor little Mwesi. It was ok to cry now. Imara was suddenly standing in front of her despite the fact Mwesi never heard a sound of him moving out from behind the tree. He was breathtakingly magnificent and most important, not threatening. rHe must be seven feet tall when he stands! Mwesi was riveted by his return gaze. Now, she felt safe. Mwesi watched as more gorillas peered and peeked out of the dense jungle. The lives of a gorilla family group are brought to life in words and pictures. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
