Charles Dickens 1812-1870: A Biography, with examples of the work of his finest illustrators

Unknown Author
4.9/5 (32380 ratings)
Description:THE BUSINESS OF BOOKS ... this is the thread which binds together our two stories. The famous novelist with his pen, the firm of Tullis Russell with its paper; both were concerned with the raw material of Literature. It is, therefore, especially appropriate that this commemorative book should combine the talents of the two.Bibliographical notes:(i) The dust wrapper of the book displays the dates 1812-1962 under its 'Charles Dickens' title but the title page reflects the actual dates of birth and death of Dickens and that is how the book is catalogued. The 1962 date refers to the year the book was published, 150 years after Dickens' birth in 1812. The title page states: 'This limited edition has been specially produced by Tullis Russell & Co Ltd to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Dickens' birth and the founding of their own company'.(ii) No author is quoted on the title page but the Preface explains that the author is John Greaves, Hon Secretary, The Dickens Fellowship, and that the extracts concerning events and personalities in 'The History of Tullis Russell & Co. Ltd.' are taken from the narrative by Miss C.D.M. Ketelbey, of St Andrews. This history is interspersed throughout the book on smaller and narrower sized pages that are interleaved between the main text.(iii) The colour illustrations are by 'Kyd', a pseudonym used by Joseph Clayton Clark, but the index of illustrations for the book states, 'reproduced from colour prints by Sam Kyd'. There is no such illustrator as Sam Kyd; 'Kyd's name is as mentioned above. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
