4.9/5 (27275 ratings)
Description:Galeria Labirynt in Lublin The catalogue was published to accompany Krzysztof Wodiczko's exhibition “Art of the Public Domain” (Labirynt Gallery, Lublin, 29th October 2013 – 15th December 2013). The book includes a text by Bożena Czubak War Veteran Projections in Art of Public Domain, Krzysztof Wodiczko's text Art of New Public Domain, the artist's biographical note and photographs of his projects complete with short notes. Bożena Czubak describes Wodiczko's projections that feature former soldiers, such as the projections on the statue of Abraham Lincoln in New York (2012), in Denver (2008) and in Warsaw (2010). The artist's works redefine our way of thinking about history and war by situating veterans' traumatic experience in the public discourse. Czubak remarks: “The aim of his art, construed as a practice of democracy, is not to situate art in public space but rather to work through it on behalf of public domain, which is a broader term politically and philosophically.” The author provides a definition of the public domain based on Maarten Hajer's and Arnold Reijndorp's book In Search of New Public Domain. Analysis and Strategy, as well as refers to Hannah Arendt's reflection on the meaning of the public domain. Czubak depicts the transformations that occurred in the course of the years in Wodiczko's projects – from the projections in the 1980s, which betrayed a phenomenological character and subjected architecture to an analysis (system, language, political and symbolical sense), to a manipulation of language and “a subversive dialogue with its iconography and symbolism”, to a critical reinterpretation of history inscribed in architecture. Since the second half of the 1990s, the artist has concentrated on highlighting the presence of excluded individuals, introducing the category of the Other, or the Stranger – the minorities that function on the fringes of social life.We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
