After another year of study in the University and three years of teaching in the Webb School, he spent two years in foreign travel and study in the University of Leipsic. In 1897 he became principal of Central Academy, and two years later was elected Professor of English in Central College, which position he has since held, spending the year 1903 (by permission of the college authorities) in graduate study in the University. Of Berlin. During the absence of President James C. Morris, 1906 he served as Acting President of Central College. He was married January 31, 1899, to Miss Mary Lee Clary of Bell Buckle, Tenn., and has three children. He has contributed to the Methodist Quarterly Review and South Atlantic Quarterly, and is the author of Richard Malcolm Johnston in Baskerville's Southern Writers. He was elected President of Central College, Fayette, Mo., at a meeting of the Board of Curators held in St. Louis, on April 23d, 1907.
