This was accomplished by observing its position in air containing co, and then in air freed from this gas. Its position was found to be unaltered by the absence of C0, . Zero changes of the spectrometer, which are usually very troublesome and almost inevitable, were reduced to a minimum in this instance by the use of iron fittings and mirror supports for the spectrometer. Every part of the spectro-bolometer was carried by heavy iron rods and castings from the base of the spectrometer.
