Description:The disabled are the largest under-evangelized people group in the world. The Lausanne Committee for World Evangelism indicates that ninety percent of disabled individuals never attend a church service. If placed together these 600 to 650 million people would comprise the world’s third largest nation with the highest rates of homelessness, joblessness, divorce, abuse, and suicide. This mixed design study with a phenomenological emphasis sought to discover why the disabled do not attend and participate in North American churches. The investigation exposed potential obstacles to their participation and explored strategies to overcome them. It outlined the responsibilities of both the disabled and the church to improve participation and ultimately foster reconciliation. The researcher designed an online virtual community, “Sawubona,” with seven participants, herself included. This experience ran for eleven weeks. This community connected by means of an email group as its communication network. The participants openly discussed their interactions with the church and answered questions posed by the researcher. Field notes, journal entries, surveys and interviews were tools used to gather data relevant to the lack of attendance. This dialogue identified perceived and real exclusions and discovered practical strategies that both the disabled and local churches can use to improve participation and reconciliation. The virtual community also taught xiv biblical responsibilities that help believers follow Jesus. Participants were interviewed before and after the project to gain insight into their emerging understanding of community and their experiences with participating in their neighborhood churches. The post project interviews indicated an increase in church related activity and acceptance from local churches for all the participants. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
