Not many months before his decease, he said to a relative, "Should God spare me to return in health to Cornwall, I intend to employ my leisure hours in writing some account of my life, and leave it for others to publish when I am gone." Those who have read the Life of the late Dr. Adam Clarke, will recollect, that he assigns as a moving cause of his valuable auto-biographical sketch, the importunity of a friend. That friend was Samuel Drew; and the fact was afterwards alleged, as a reason why Mr. D. should no longer hazard the writing of his own memoirs upon the contingency of life. "In reference to some auto-biography of yourself," writes a member of Dr. Clarke's family, "this is not the first time I have entreated you, nor will it be the last, till I know that you are attending to the suggestion.
