Description:From the Introduction:The 150 letters contained in this volume have been selected from the large number that Conrad wrote to me from the year in which I first met him, 1912, to the year of his death, 1924. Only ten of these letters have been printed in the official Life and Letters, and those ten were, I think, chosen by the editor more for the facts they contain than for their quality as letters. Therefore the correspondence is, practically speaking, unknown; and I think that, if for no other reason, it is worth preserving in this form as presenting an angle of Conrad that few of his letters so far published do present.It is not a literary correspondence in essentials, nor is it the type of correspondence one conducts with a friend whom one seldom sees. Indeed, I would have received many more letters from Conrad but for the fact that for some years of the period in which I knew him I was far from England and that he wrote to me only sparingly during such absences.
